Ray Nolan

I present the Country and Irish Show on Sunday nights here on Community Radio Kilkenny City.

I started my broadcasting career way back in the days of KCR in Ballycallan where we broadcast from an old disused outhouse/haybarn.

The late Frank (Fun) Coyne R.I.P first introduced me to the airways, asking if I would be interested in filling in on some shows if needed, and although apprehensive about the idea, I jumped straight in and soon afterwards I had my own slot presenting a mix of American and Irish Country Music, and as they say, the rest is history.

When KCR ceased broadcasting in Ballycallan, I took a break from presenting but started again when Radio Kilkenny came on air as an official radio station, and I stayed with Radio Kilkenny for 13 years until it’s doors closed for the last time.

On Radio Kilkenny I presented 3 Country Shows each week, Thursday nights from 11pm to 1am, Saturday Mornings from 7am to 9am, and Sunday nights from 11pm to 1am. On a few occasions through the years, I broadcast live straight through the night which meant starting at 11pm and finishing the following morning at 7am! That’s 8 hours of non-stop Country and Irish by the one presenter. Would I do it now that I’m a much older person you might ask? I’m not sure about the answer to that one yet!

And so onto more recent times and we now a vibrant Community Radio Station in Kilkenny. Born through the vision and desire of a number of volunteers, and made possible through the wishes of the local community.

Community Radio Kilkenny City is a Radio station by the people and for the people, established to give a voice to all residents, groups & individuals of Kilkenny City and Environs a means to have their voice heard.
